    Some of the narration approaches the Red Green Show, which I consider to be a compliment (with respect to the narration). The machine work is just top notch! Videos like these are a perfect blend of craftsmanship (or craftswomanship) and humor. Awesome!

    Quinn, any tips on timing a twin Cylinder LBSC "Molly" with Stephenson Link motion. Can I time one Cylinder and then the other, based on the method you show in this video? I assume that the non adjusted side would just be driven by the "Timed side, until both are adjusted?

    Hello Quinn. I always love watching your videos, but I’ve never had a method for doing things that was better than yours that would lead me to comment…until now! I’ve been restoring a lathe so I’ve had to tape off countless machined surfaces, and the two best ways I have found to do this is to tape the whole surface and either: 1. Use a file and drag it along the edge of the tape /machined surface to weaken it enough that you can peel it off (this leaves a bit of a chamfer which may not be ideal in all cases) or 2. Use a rubber or plastic mallet to gently hit the edge of the machined surface to cut the tape and allow you to pull it off. Either method I have found to work really well in almost any situation. It leaves really clean lines and is generally faster than cutting the tape. Hope this helps and thanks for the great videos!

    A bit late before I finally got to see this. Great video as usual. When heat treating small parts pinch an idea from Clickspring and put them in a wire cage with a grab hook. This makes dunking them in the oil or water quick and easy without the risk of them flying out of the pliers (don't ask how I know this can happen). Another Clickspring trick is to embed the cage in a slurried paste of borax and alcohol (ethanol not iPA) which means they are not covered in slag

    I for one applaud your blatant display of our 2nd Amendment rights! (I kid, I realize it's a strictly US thing). Nothing better than a properly sharp drill bit. Watching two chips form on a drilling operation for me is satisfying.

  • @DanSHJ45
    @DanSHJ45 2 дні тому

    Love the content Quinn! Gun show and sweet chip flying action and everything! You are absolutely right the full size locomotives have centers in the pins and axle ends. Both because that’s how they were made, AND because you use that center later to measure and adjust the drivers, rods and valve gear so that the engine is square and in tram. I watch this and I’m like “oh no, how will she shim the drivers into tram without shoes and wedges?!?” And then I realize you can just machine it all on one machine so you can hold MUCH better tolerances on the frames than Baldwin ever did!

    Mark Novak(youtube gunsmith) was working on some luger parts he wanted to make a nice straw yellow, and he said(at least for that steel he was using) the temperature for that was around 200°F. So he boiled them, because that meant they couldn't get hotter than 212°F I don't know if that's useful to you, but you can never have too many tricks of the trades.
